Earlier this year we lost our querido amigo and artist Santiago.
In the words of actor/comedian John Leguizamo, his friend and patron, who dedicated a recent performance of Ghetto Klown at Guild Hall of East Hampton’s John Drew Theater to him, Santiago was, “…a most positive force in this world.”
(You can read an interview with John Leguizamo in Luxe IMMO Magazine with a gallery of photos of his art collection)
Guild Hall accompanied John in honoring Santiago Garza’s life, as he had been a founding and active member of the organization’s Contemporaries group.
Santiago had multiple expressions for his creative talents and worked with them and his photography for celebrities, in fashion, architecture/design, and of course fine art, including performance.
His work is in the collections of Henry Buhl, Diane von Furstenberg, John Leguizamo, and the Queens Museum of Art, among others.
A selection of photographs from his notable “hispanity” series were featured on the Showtime Network’s announcement for the 3rd Annual Showtime Latino Filmmaker Showcase.
Esperanza León is working alongside the Garza family to ensure Santiago’s artistic legacy is preserved and endures.
Two large format photographic prints, PCH (2007) and Sky Lot (2007), are currently available through Solar. Please email info(at)artsolar.com with inquiries.
